Refuse Pick-Up
Prohibits the placing of items at curbside for pick-up prior to 5:00 P.M. on the day preceding the designated day for such outside pick-up. Refer to the refuse schedule for pick-up

Leaf Waste Collection
Leaf collection begins the third week in October through the first week of December. Leaves must be placed in brown bags at curbside.

Scavenging or Refuse Littering and Dumping
Chapter 174 by the Brentwood Borough code prohibits scavenging of refuse, littering and dumping.
Fences

Truck Parking
No trucks, mobile homes, housecars, etc. shall park on the streets of Brentwood residential areas unless a permit is obtained from the Police Chief. Any truck or trailer, camper, etc. over 3⁄4 ton or more than four wheels must be parked in a garage.

User's Fee
To avoid an increase in taxes, Brentwood Council was obligated to put a User's Fee on garbage pick-up. This fee is $5.00 per month, payable quarterly.

Pets
All dogs must have a current license and must be kept on a leash. Applications for dog licenses are available at the Borough Office.

No more than four (4) household pets over the age of six (6) months may be kept on any premises in the Borough.

No person shall keep or harbor any household pet so as to create offensive odors, excessive noise or unsanitary conditions which are a menace to the health, comfort or safety of the public. Any household pet, which by frequent and habitual barking, howling, screeching, yelping or baying, or in any way or manner injures or disturbs the quiet of any person in the community, is hereby declared to be committing a nuisance.

Any household pet which scratches, digs or defecates upon any lawn, tree, shrub, plant, building or any other public or private property, other than the property of the owner or person in charge or control of such animal, is hereby declared to be a nuisance.

No person being the owner or in charge of any household pet shall allow or permit such animal to commit a nuisance on any school grounds or other public property, etc. where the owner or person in charge of such animal immediately remove all feces, deposited by such animal and disposes of same in a sanitary manner.

Disturbance of the Peace Prohibited
Radios, televisions, phonographs, tape recorders, loud speakers and amplifiers, etc. reproducing of sound in such a manner as to disturb the peace. Power lawn mowers and chain saws prohibited between the hours of 9:00 P.M. and 7:00 A.M. (9:00 A.M. on Sundays), prevailing time.

Snow Removal from Sidewalks
The depositing of snow into the street is prohibited. Also, removal of snow and ice from sidewalks and business districts - it is the responsibility of the owner or tenant to remove snow ad ice from sidewalks within 2 business hours after the snow or ice ceases to fall. In residential districts the owner or tenant of the building shall, within four daylight hours after the snow or ice ceases to fall, must remove said snow or ice from the sidewalk . . . subject to fines.

Sidewalks/Curb Cuts
Repair and replacement of sidewalks and curb cuts is the responsibility of the property owner.

Building Permits
A building permit is not required for routine repairs of maintenance; however any improvement that involves new construction, a structural alteration or any addition DOES require a permit. Permits are required for but not limited to the following:

  • Fences (The Brentwood Zoning ordinance regulates construction and maintenance of fences, in particular fences are to be no more than 4' in height and are permitted only behind the front of the building line.)
  • Signs
  • Swimming Pools
  • Building Demolition
  • Utility Sheds
  • Garages
  • Porches
  • Street Excavations
  • Sidewalk and Curb Cuts
  • Sewer Taps

Please call the Building Inspector/Zoning Officer before making any commitment to a contractor or home improvement company.

* You should consult with your attorney to make sure your affairs are in order. The Code Enforcement Officer selectively enforces code violations and has been known to be subjective in his rulings .

Solicitation Permits
A solicitation permit is required by the Borough of Brentwood for any door-to-door sales or transactions. This does not apply to those who are working for or who are running for public office, or other politically related items protected by the First Amendment.

Trees and Shrubs
Trees and shrubs shall not obscure street lights or obstruct sidewalks. Trimming and removal of trees and shrubs is the responsibility of the abutting property owner.

Council Meetings
All Meetings are held at the Brentwood Municipal Building, 3624 Brownsville Road as follows:

  • Agenda Meetings are the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 7:30 P.M.
  • Regular Meetings are the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7:30 P.M.

Brentwood Borough Planning Commission
All Meetings are held at the Brentwood Municipal Building, 3624 Brownsville Road as follows:

  • The third Thirsday of every month at 7:30 P.M., in Council Chambers, as needed.
    The Planning Commission is a recommending body that consists of seven residents appointed by Council to serve the community without compensation.

Brentwood Borough Zoning Hearing Board
All Meetings are held at the Brentwood Municipal Building, 3624 Brownsville Road as follows:

  • The fourth Wednesday of every month at 8:00 P.M. in Council Chambers, as needed.
    The Zoning Hearing Board consists of five residents and a Solicitor appointed by Council.
